Assessment 1: Data analysis for industry

Rationale

Data analysis, particularly using the statistical programming language R, is increasingly becoming central to the skillset expected of most biology disciplines. Industrial companies and clinical sciences are turning to sophisticated data analysis approaches such as machine learning techniques to understand complex multivariate data. As such a strong background in advanced statistical approaches is necessary for the modern biology graduate and is an important skill.

Task

You will be required to produce a professional report detailing the results of a comprehensive data analysis of a set of multivariate data for an industry partner. You will be expected to use the R statistical programming language to perform all analyses and generate plots. You must show that you have carefully considered the appropriate analyses on the basis of the research question, the type of variables and their distribution. All graphical plots must have figure legends, must be legible and be of publication quality.
