Servant leadership is what we do as nurses. We often put our patients needs before our own .  Most of us who are nurses have the desire to help, serve, and make others feel better, this gives us satisfaction. We actively listen to our patients and show empathy. We take on the stress of their situation and often bring it home on our shoulders to bare. We talk about them to family and friends and often cry about our patients and pray for them after we leave work. I have eaten lunch in my patients room so they don’t have to be alone before a procedure they are worried about. I have come back to work on my off day to sit with a patient when they have no one to sit with them after a procedure. To be a servant of God means that you are a servant of his people. This is who we are as nurses. For those who do the work with pleasure, instead of doing the job for pay or merit, it shows. Servant leadership is about focusing on other people’s needs. A faithful steward, wanting to fix what is wrong, do whatever it takes to bring comfort and joy to a patient. Its having compassion for the patient , and awareness for their needs..

Servant leadership is a type of leadership that puts servant first and making sure that other people’s needs are being met first. With this type of leadership, it favors its employees first. This type of leader wants to please its members first for the success of the organization but not to a point that employees are taking advantage of their leaders because this leadership is also build on trust and teamwork. In the healthcare setting, we nurses tend to attend to our patient’s needs first before us, Even if it means not eating lunch on time or even no lunch at all. There are also times in which going to the restroom is a luxury because your patient is very ill and you need to attend their needs first because they trusted you with their lives. And at times like these, wherein no visitors are allowed in the hospital, we, nurses are whom they have considered as their family. It is not that we are obliged to do these things but when we became nurses, this is what we signed up for. At the end of a tiring day and you see your patient recovering, you can actually say to yourself that hard work pays off and be able to breathe with the sigh of relief. how the vocation of the nurse is similar to the goals of a servant leader
