Part I

Every individual can agree that soldiers work tirelessly to defend citizens, as well as the country’s constitution. They are responsible for maintaining ethics, in addition to engaging their physical courage to fulfill their mission. They are always prepared to die for the country, since they do not know their fate when they are sent on a peace mission in war-tone areas. Thus, how the government treats them is quite critical in enhancing their responsibilities.

Thesis: In order to enhance their responsibilities as they serve the country, soldiers should work half days. Working for a half day would ensure that soldiers get enough time to relax and be with their families.

Part II

Logos: Soldiers are required to be physically fit in order to handle their duties effectively. Soldiers usually get exhausted due to lack of sleep, especially when they are on tight schedule (Roenneberg, 2012). Soldiers work as a team, hence, each team can work for half a day and the next team assumes the duty for the rest of the day. Thus, working for a half day during normal duties can assist soldiers to avoid fatigue and remain alert.

Pathos: Soldiers are likely to improve their productivity if they are allowed to work only for a half day. They can be permitted to spend the remaining part of the day with their families, or to attend personal matters. Due to the nature of their responsibilities, soldiers require family members and friends to motivate and give them hope. In addition, they can get time to discuss the challenges they face at working during their free time.

Ethos: Soldiers should be treated just like any other public servant, and should be compensated for working extra hours. They are always on duty, even when on leave, because they are supposed to respond to emergencies at any time, regardless of where they are during the emergency.

Part III

Claim: Soldiers, like other human beings, need rest and time to chat with family members and friends. They play a crucial role in society; hence, their working conditions should be improved for desirable outcomes.

Warrant: People who work for a few tend to be more productive than those who work for many hours because they have time to organize for the next mission. It is logical for the police department to experiment this method and see the results.

Qualifier: It is not certain that working for a half day would enhance productivity, as some soldiers may indulge in risky activities that might interfere with their productivity. However, the police department should continue evaluating the performance of each soldier to understand their progress.

Grounds: Constant evaluation of soldiers’ performance would determine whether working for a half day should be adopted. According to Griggs (2015), soldiers should be appraised three to four times each year because they deal with humans, in addition to handling expensive and deadly weapons.

Rebuttals: The country may not have enough soldiers to allow them to work for a half-day, owing to limited budget, and the number of emergencies that are reported within a day. If all emergencies are responded to, then soldiers on duty have to work for a whole day.

Fallacy: One of the fallacies that could have interfered with this study is hasty generalization. Soldiers do not necessarily require working for a half-day in order to relax, but rather to enhance equitable distribution of duties. Hasty generalization can be avoided by engaging soldiers in a talk to understand why they really need to work for fewer hours.
